THE STORY OF HEILMAN'S NUTS & CONFECTIONS
OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN

The Heilman story has its beginning in the Kalamazoo area.  It was born and raised so to speak for the people of Kalamazoo, and those people have opened their hearts and loved it back.

The Heilman roasting process began in 1917.  When Mr. Al Heilman took over the store in 1988 the customer response overwhelmed him. After several different locations of the store he finally settled at 1804 S. Westnedge.  This vacant spot was once the home to a two-bay Sinclair station and after months of re-construction opened in mid-October of 1991 as Heilman's Nuts & Confections.  The new building allowed for 100 lbs. of nuts to be roasted at a time as well as batches of peanut brittle, caramel corn, and caramel apples.  It was also home to a Chocolate Room to make all sorts of goodies.

In the Fall of 2006, Dan and Rose Herder took over the beloved Heilman's Nuts & Confections.  Both the local and worldwide community can rest assured that Mr. Al Heilman left the business in good hands.  The Herder's are going to continue the business as it was left to them.  This means no name changes, no product changes, and definitely no recipe changes.

The tradition that began almost a century ago will go into the future unchanged and remain a Kalamazoo favorite.  The Heilman nuts have been a tradition, both locally and abroad, shipping products worldwide. The mission is mouth-watering gourmet nuts and confections with guaranteed freshness.  

We have all kinds of nuts.

There's specially blanched, extra large Virginia peanuts, super whole cashews, mammoth pecans, extra large nonpareil California almonds, Spanish peanuts, extra large redskins, Oregon filberts, Brazil nuts, Macadamias, natural pistachios, and sunflower seeds. We use only the finest nut meats, which are freshly roasted in cholesterol-free corn oil and lightly salted according to our secret recipes.  Care in preparation and presentation are paramount throughout the process.

The Heilman business began as a family business, not just among the owners and their children, but extended to the devoted employees and friends, and will                                   continue this way.
